Antonio Callaway didn't have the end to his Florida career that many wanted. But his football playing days are far from over. Especially when some see him as a player akin to Florida legend Percy Harvin.
NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah sees some of what made Harvin such an incredible playmaker in Callaway's game.
"Obviously has several off-field issues to sort out but he's incredibly talented," Jeremiah tweeted about Callaway. "Reminds me of Percy Harvin coming out of college. He's explosive, elusive and instinctive."
Of course, Callaway didn't see the field at all in 2017 because of those aforementioned off-field issues. He missed the entire season after being implicated in credit card fraud. Callaway also had multiple other incidents in his time at Florida. After missing his entire junior season, Callaway declared for the 2018 NFL Draft. He has been training in Atlanta.
Harvin was a first-round draft pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, but Callaway is not expected to be one in the 2018 NFL Draft. Harvin did win the rookie of the year award in 2009 and won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks, but his career fizzled out because of injuries. He announced his retirement from the NFL before the 2017 NFL season.
Without Callaway on the field, the Florida offense suffered mightily. The Gators went 4-7 and coach Jim McElwain parted ways with the team midway through the season. Had Callaway been able to play, the Gators' season likely has a very different outcome.
The 2018 NFL Draft is scheduled to run from April 26-28.
