MLSM 2018 Predictions: MLS Player Awards, Regular Season and Playoffs - MLS Multiplex

TORONTO, ONTARIO – DECEMBER 09: Captain Michael Bradley

Saturday marks the return of MLS. Like last season the MLS Multiplex team predicts player awards, the regular season & the playoffs.

February is a time of hope across MLS, both for the clubs and their fans. Many teams consider themselves title contenders. Several believe they will make the leap from 2017 struggler to 2018 playoff team. Players think about their individual goals for the season and how they are needed to help their team reach the ultimate prize.

This time of year makes predictions easy (and fun), but as history shows, they can also provide quite the funny look back come the summer or at the end of the year. For a bit of fun take a reach through the MLS Multiplex 2017 predictions. Three Toronto picks for MLS Cup champion and three for Seattle, reasonable. Two for DC United in 2017? Ouch.

This season we had our team predict the MLS Cup Champions, Eastern, and Western Conference Finals and Champions, the Supporters Shield, the Golden Boot, MVP, Defender, Rookie, Goalkeeper and Coach of the Year, as well as the winner of the US Open Cup. Enjoy and send us your thoughts on the selections on Twitter at @MLSMultiplex.

Supporters Shield:

  • Cameron: Toronto FC
  • Dan Shulman: Atlanta United
  • Jordan: Toronto FC
  • Josh: Atlanta United
  • Juan: Toronto FC
  • Liam: Toronto FC
  • Mark: Toronto FC
  • Matt: Toronto FC
  • Nathan: Toronto FC
  • Tevan: NYCFC
  • Tyler: Toronto FC

After dominating 2017, Toronto FC looks to be a consensus pick for another Supporters Shield.

HARRISON, NEW JERSEY- OCTOBER 15: Josef Martinez

Golden Boot:

  • Cameron: Sebastian Giovinco
  • Dan Shulman: Josef Martinez
  • Jordan: Josef Martinez
  • Josh: Josef Martinez
  • Juan: Ola Kamara
  • Liam: Dom Dwyer
  • Mark: Josef Martinez
  • Matt: Josef Martinez
  • Nathan: Josef Martinez
  • Tevan: Josef Martinez
  • Tyler: Josef Martinez

Again, the majority of the team agrees that Atlanta United's Josef Martinez takes home the title for most goals in 2018 (which he almost did in 2017, even while missing significant time out injured).

Defender of the Year:

  • Cameron: Matt Hedges
  • Dan Shulman: Leandro Gonzalez Pirez
  • Jordan: Justen Glad
  • Josh: Justin Morrow
  • Juan: Matt Hedges
  • Liam: Walker Zimmerman
  • Mark: Walker Zimmerman
  • Matt: Walker Zimmerman
  • Nathan: Justin Morrow
  • Tevan: Jonathan Mensah
  • Tyler: Florian Jungwirth

Finally a bit of variety with at least three players getting multiple votes and seven total different selections. Interesting to note that last year's winner Ike Opara isn't mentioned.
