Court records have shown Major League Soccer and Precourt Sports Ventures has met with local investors in Columbus interested in buying the rights to the Crew SC. Precourt Sports Ventures has been trying to move the team to Austin, Texas.

An affidavit filed in the Court of Common Pleas in Franklin County said "in March 2018, MLS officials met with potential local investors in Columbus...More recently, among other things, counsel for MLS contacted counsel for the Attorney General to reiterate its willingness to talk to interested bidders and to provide relevant financial information subject to (a non-disclosure agreement)."

"I don't think there's any doubt now that there are people involved locally that are interested in purchasing the team," said John Zidar, one of the leaders of the Save the Crew fan movement. "We know that they're out there. They've been confirmed now a few times from both sides now."

While those meetings have given some fans hope the team may stay in Columbus, the team still wants to move.

"Any event we go to whether it's an away watch party at a bar, home game, what have you, any Crew related thing, everybody has got to have in the back of their mind, 'is this the last time I get to do this'," Zidar said.

The State of Ohio and City of Columbus have sued to keep the team in Columbus. They're using the Art Modell Law passed after the Browns left Cleveland but that law has never been challenged in court. Attorneys for the MLS argued it's unconstitutional.

The names of the investors were not disclosed in the court documents. One was described as a "prominent citizen". That person was sent a non-disclosure agreement to look at the Crew SC's finances but the league attorneys said that person never signed it.
