SAN ANTONIO - Moritz Wagner may have ended his standout Michigan career in the national title game. But in the moments afterward, he wasn't keen to talk about his future.
After Michigan's 79-62 loss to Villanova, Wagner declined to say whether he's thought about whether he will return to Michigan for his senior year or declare for the NBA draft.
"This night has nothing to do with next year, it has to do with Duncan Robinson, Muhammad and Jaaron," Wagner said, referencing Michigan's seniors. "Their career is over."
Wagner has been seen as an early entrant possibility after averaging 14.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game as a junior. The 6-foot-11 German forward flustered defenses all year with his ability to play both inside and outside.
He had a standout performance in the national semifinal win over Loyola, recording 24 points and 15 rebounds. In the national championship game, he recorded 16 points and seven rebounds.
Wagner declared for the NBA draft last year without an agent last year and went through the draft evaluation process. On the day of the withdrawal deadline, he announced he would return to Michigan for his junior season.
Michigan junior guard Charles Matthews also told reporters he will talk to the coaching staff and his family before making a decision about next season.
