NBA Podcast: Matt Moore on regular season's wild end, playoffs and Memphis Grizzlies sale - Washington Post

At times, the NBA's regular season feels like an eternity. Over the course of six months, 1,230 games are played and, as people wait for the playoffs to begin, that can feel like a road to nowhere.

In truth, every single game counts. That's why The Action Network's Matt Moore begins tracking how individual games can impact tiebreaker scenarios right from the opening game of the regular season until now.

"We lose sight of the fact, because so often the heavy favorites win, that if you make the second round, you're treated differently than if you are in the first round and out," Moore said on the latest episode of "Posting Up," The Washington Post's NBA podcast. "If you make a conference final, you're a serious team, that's one piece away, and your matchup determines a lot of that.

"If you catch the team that's the weak top seed, you have a chance to make a run because you're getting weaker opponents because you're getting the teams they were going to play … all this stuff winds up really mattering."

The fact it all matters was a heavy topic of conversation on the podcast, which hit on a variety of topics including:

— Denver and Minnesota's play-in game for the final open playoff spot, with predictions for who will win

— Optimal first-round matchups for entertainment purposes, as well as the teams most likely to give top seeds trouble in each conference

— Is Golden State still the favorite to win the title?

— What does Robert Pera retaining control of the Memphis Grizzlies mean, and is the team destined to stay in Memphis?
