New York Red Bulls Release

HARRISON, N.J. – Former Colgate standout Ethan Kutler '17 has signed an MLS contract with the New York Red Bulls, the organization announced Wednesday.

Kutler spent the 2017 season and the start of the 2018 season with the Red Bulls' USL affiliate, New York Red Bulls II. He becomes the seventh player from New York Red Bulls II to sign a first team contract.

"Part of the value of our USL team is having players already in our environment that are ready to step up in these scenarios," said Red Bulls Sporting Director Denis Hamlett in a release publiched by the New York Red Bulls. "We know Ethan well, and he knows our system and our players. This is an exciting day for Ethan, his family and our club, and we are pleased to welcome him to the MLS roster. We know he will continue to work every day to make himself and our team better."

Kutler became Colgate's highest-ever draft pick when he was selected in the second round (39th overall) of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. He played one season with NYRBII as an outside back, logging 2,141 minutes. Kutler ranked fourth on the team in interceptions last year with 43 and leads the team in that category with 22 in 2018.

Kutler capped off one of the most prolific careers in Colgate men's soccer history by guiding the Raiders to their sixth Patriot League Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016. The Lansing, N.Y., native wrapped up his time in the Maroon and White as a three-time All-Region player and three-time first team All-Patriot League selection. His 81 career points finished second all-time in the Colgate record books, while his 33 goals were good for third all-time.

"I am beyond excited to get the nod and continue doing what I love for this organization," Kutler said in the New York Red Bulls release. "Years of hard work, sacrifice, and commitment have led to this moment. Nothing stops here and I will continue to push myself to make an impact at the MLS level."

Kutler graduated from Colgate with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science in May 2017.
