Week 9 opened up on Friday night in Canada, when the Vancouver Whitecaps put two past the visiting Real Salt Lake. Atlanta United fought back from a goal down at home, putting four straight by Montreal Impact, and, following a midweek game in Mexico, Toronto FC returned home and earned a point in a 2-2 draw with the Chicago Fire.

In one of the most entertaining games of the weekend, the Union and DC United battled back and forth in what would end as a 3-2 Philly victory, while San Jose continued to struggle, losing 2-1 in Columbus. New England shocked the then league-leaders, Sporting KC, with a 1-0 win.

The Loons picked up their third win of the season, getting past the Dynamo 2-1 at home. A trip to LA seemed like a difficult one for the Red Bulls, but after the final whistle blew, the visitors walked away with the three points.

Sunday kicked off in Colorado where the Rapids left empty handed, watching the visiting Orlando City get past them 2-1. Back in the Bronx, David Villa's pair of goals helped NYCFC beat FC Dallas and the weekend concluded in the brand new Banc of California Stadium where a stoppage time free-kick lifted LAFC over the Sounders.

5. Danny Hoesen's Wondeful Header

With his team down a goal forward Danny Hoesen brought the Quakes back into the game in the 45th minute.

Just moments prior to the halftime whistle, left-back Florian Jungwirth, used the space he was given to play a ball into the box. The German used his left foot to send a cross into the Crew's box, a perfect opportunity for a teammate to get on the end of it.

In true poacher fashion, striker Danny Hoesen was in the perfect position for Jungwirth's placed pass. The 27 year-old got his head on the ball, sending it back to where it came from and into the left side of the goal.

Hoesen's goal wasn't enough for the Earthquakes to leave Columbus with points as an 84th-minute strike from Mike Grella earned the Crew a win.
