This coming summer could be another raucous time for NBA fans.
With LeBron James, Paul George and Kawhi Leonard all likely headed for either the free-agent or trade market, three of the top 15 players in the league could change addresses within the next few months.
Make that four of the top 15 (or so) names.
According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, folks around the NBA are bantering about the idea of the Oklahoma City Thunder trading Russell Westbrook. Yes, as in moving on from the player that won the 2016-17 NBA MVP award.
"There's an increasing number of people around the league who think the Thunder should look at trading [Russell] Westbrook. To be clear, not a report. Not Thunder sources think they should do this. Just in spitballing ideas with teams around the league, there's a number of people who have heard, just like, 'It's time for something to change here.'"
Westbrook signed a five-year, $205 million extension last September.
This season, Westbrook averaged 25.4 points, 10.3 assists and 10.1 rebounds per game while leading Oklahoma City to the postseason. After a first-round exit at the hands of the Utah Jazz, the Thunder are staring at a future in which George could depart and the team will have little cap room to add another star alongside Westbrook.
If Westbrook is on the block, suitors will line up to pursue a player, that while flawed, is a top-tier NBA talent.
